Location and Environment

The Humboldt State University Marine Laboratory is a fully equipped marine station located 285 miles north of San Francisco in an area of rocky coastlines and towering redwoods. The marine lab is located in the small coastal town of Trinidad, about 14 miles north of the Humboldt State University main campus and 20 miles south of Redwood National Park. The Laboratory is situated in close proximity to rocky coastlines, quiet bays and lagoons, salt marshes, sandy beaches, and estuarine sloughs. The climate is maritime with cool wet winters and warmer dry summers with regular coastal fog.

The lab is free and open to the public from 9am – 4:30pm Monday thru Friday, and 10:00am – 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays (weekend hours may vary during the summer). A self guided tour is available, in addition to several view tanks and a touch tank. For a current schedule or other questions, please call (707) 826-3671. If you have questions about tours, call our Marine Naturalist at 826-3689.
